Frequently Asked Questions

How did we determine to suspend on-site classes and activities?

The Allen County Health Department strongly requested that schools close to help reduce the opportunities for the virus to spread.  ESM made this decision in unison with the other Lutheran schools in Fort Wayne.

When will school resume normal operation?

The current date for return is Monday, April 13th.  This had previously been a day off as the Monday after Easter.  It is our strong desire that we will open classes that Monday again to students.   However, this is a rapidly evolving situation and parents should be aware of all future postings on the status of our return.

How will students continue to receive instruction?

ESM’s teachers are still working full time.  Under present circumstances, the teachers will be on-campus about one-half of the time and work remotely the other half.  They are committed to providing two days a week of home-based remote learning instruction.   ESM will recognize the scheduled spring break.  Outside of the spring break week, students in K-8 will receive instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Teachers will follow up with personal contact by video chat or phone call to ensure engagement, provide encouragement, and maintain community.

Is the school building closed?

No.  The offices, both Union and Getz will be open Monday through Thursday for normal school hours 8:30am – 4:00pm.  Teachers will work both on-site and remotely.  If you, or your child, need something from school or to meet with a school staff member, the school is open during office hours.  We encourage you to contact the person with whom you desire to meet and set a schedule to ensure your meeting.
