Kim Cain (1st Grade)

In first grade WE HAVE FUN! We enjoy working in small groups during reading and math time. If we are not in small groups, we are working collaboratively to help each other.  We also work on making friendships and develop the ability to work independently.

In math, first graders learn their addition and subtraction facts and telling time.  We also work on number sense, computation, problem solving, geometry and measurement.  I use the Balanced Literacy approach to adapt my reading curriculum to meet the individual needs of each child.  Our Writer's Workshop helps children gain the confidence they need to be great writers and readers.

Highlights:

First graders enjoy field trips to: Omnisource, Metea Park Nature Center, The History Center, Hilger’s, McMillen Health Center just to name a few.  I join with Mrs. Wright to team teach first grade Social Studies throughout the year. In the fourth quarter, I teach Spanish to all of the students.
