Connie Hoyer (8th Grade)

Preparing students for high school, as well as for their adult lives, is an extremely important objective at ESM.  It's our goal to ensure they are prepared socially, academically, and spiritually for their lives ahead.

Eighth graders are involved in many activities in and outside of school to help accomplish that goal.  They have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports, the city-wide Mathcounts competition, poetry and essay writing contests, and the ISSMA and NEILSS Music and Arts Festivals.

Students also create a "Story of My Life" -- a keepsake scrapbook they work on at their own pace throughout the year.  Students are also actively involved in fundraising for the culminating event of their year -- a five-day trip to Washington, D.C.  They learn about economics, leadership, and organization through fundraising activities that include Market Day, Cheer Camp and hosting a Family Basketball Game, and a Talent Show.
