First Grade Parent Information
Mrs.
Cain: home phone #490-6303
Hello
Parents! My name is Kimberly (Kim) Cain and I am excited
about being your child’s teacher this year. This is my
sixth year of teaching and my fifth year at Emmanuel-St.
Michael Lutheran. I am married with two daughters, Hailey
and Lindsay and a dog, Maisy. My husband David and I live
in The Rapids of Keefer Creek off of Lima Road. I love to
read, scrapbook, and participate in school activities, and
feel that teaching is one of the greatest joys of my life.
It’s so exciting to receive a group of students for a new
year of learning and fun. It will be so nice to share the
year with all of you.
BIRTHDAYS:
We will
celebrate this special day in the classroom. Your child may
bring a treat to share. I ask that you DO NOT send drinks.
We will observe half birthdays for those who have summer
birthdays. REMINDER: Party invitations may NOT be passed
out in school unless the ENTIRE class is invited.
BAPTISM
BIRTHDAYS:
How
important and special it is to celebrate the day we became
children of God! We set apart this day with a special song
and remembrance for your child. If your child wishes to
bring a treat, please make it an inexpensive gift such as a
bookmark, pencil, eraser, or sticker, etc. for each member
of the class. I ask that you do not send in food items for
this special day. Summer baptisms will be celebrated on
half-year dates.
BOOK
CLUBS:
Book
order forms will be sent out monthly. Should you decide to
order books, please make a CHECK out directly to the
appropriate Book Club as opposed to me. NO CASH PLEASE!
Staple the check and the book order together (don’t forget
your child’s name on the order form) and send it back to
school in an envelope with your child’s name on the
outside. I will occasionally make book suggestions in my
weekly newsletter.
NEWSLETTER:
A parent
newsletter will be coming home with your child each Monday.
It will contain important information from me, and later in
the year, articles written by the children. Be sure to look
for memory work each week. Please take time to read the
newsletter so that you can be informed on what your child is
learning in first grade.
PAPERS
HOME:
All
school papers will be sent home in your child’s Take Home
folder. The folder pockets will be marked “Bring Right
Back” (on the right pocket). If the papers are NOT to be
returned, they will be placed on the “Left at Home” side of
the folder. Those papers finished or corrected and returned
will be placed on the side marked “Bring Back”. It is VERY
important that you check your child’s “Take Home” folder
each day.
CHAPEL
SERVICES:
Each
Wednesday your child will be attending a chapel service in
church. I will be reviewing appropriate chapel behavior
with your child and I would appreciate it if you too would
reinforce proper chapel etiquette with your child.
MILK
BREAK:
Each
morning we will have a 10-minute nutritional milk break.
Please be advised when your child gets milk for snack time
you will be charged for the price of milk. **Snacks: fruit,
vegetables, crackers, pretzels, yogurt
***NO:
Chocolate or sugary snacks. Please make the appropriate,
well-balanced choices for your child.
FIELD
TRIPS:
Mrs.
LaBrash and I take our field trips together. We may need
volunteers for a few of the trips and I will let you know
well in advance if the need is there. Sorry, no siblings
are allowed to attend field trips with the class.

CHRIST-CENTERED CLASSROOM:
First
grade is such an exciting time! Christ is a focal point for
all we say and do at Emmanuel-St. Michael Lutheran. God has
given us so many blessings and we will take time each day to
thank and praise Him for these. I encourage you to do this
at home with your family. Family devotions are great and
children learn so much from their adult role-models. I
thank and praise God for the blessing of your child and I
pray for His guidance as we work together in the year
ahead. I ask for your prayers and support throughout the
year as well.
Remember
that the best gifts you can give your child are not
purchased at a department store. The best gifts you can
give your child are your support and encouragement during
the years of learning. That support and encouragement will
give your child the rewards of confidence, knowledge, and
social skills needed for success in his/her future. It is
my goal to provide your child these rewards in heaping
amounts. Thank you for working with me to ensure your child
the best gifts that money can’t buy.
God’s
Blessings on a great year!
Mrs.
Kimberly Cain
